Welcome to 2010 Section of SPBEA’S. 2010 CD Pack.

This section contains information that will be relevant for the 2010 academic year for PSSC and SPFSC. It is divided in to the following subsections:

1. CALENDAR FOR 2010 - the dates put herein are the final dates unless changed in the QUALS updates. So please update these Calendars if there are any changes mentioned in the QUALS updates.

3. PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED FOR IAs and EA.
   a. Internal Assessment (IAs)
   i. Exemplars for PSSC English and Mathematics give a good indication of how IA components that are moderated are treated.
   ii. IA Approval Process and Summary Forms
   iii. Moderation Instructions - includes information on the process of moderation that are used for PSSC and SPFSC
   iv. Projects marking cover sheets
   
   b. External Assessments (EA)
   i. Procedures for EAs - Admissions slips etc; home schools and study schools and examination centres. Supervisors duties. - is under development
   ii. Results Notice Descriptives – this document explains the various marks on the Certificates and Results Notices
   
   c. Processing of Marks (Scaling)
   i. Flowchart showing the process of scaling that is currently used.
   
   
4. PRESCRIPTIONS THAT ARE EFFECTIVE FOR 2010
   a. Notes on prescriptions revised in 2010 that becomes effective in 2011. These subjects will need complete IA approval submissions.
   
   b. All other prescriptions to be used in 2010 for PSSC and SPFSC
   
   
   
5. IT TOOLS - this contains various IT tools that are to be installed on computers within the school and can be used to improve the efficiency of communications with SPBEA. You should try to use the programs provided. If you cannot then contact SPBEA (spbea(AT)spbea.org.fj) and support will be provided.
   a. WINZIP - this is a program that allows one to compress programs so that they become smaller and maybe sent over the internet. If the data that you want to send SPBEA is too large then you should use the next program
   
   b. HJSPLIT - this program has two parts
   i. One - to split a file into smaller parts
   ii. Another - to join the split files back to the larger file.
   
   c. MSN Messenger - this is the program that will allow you to communicate with SPBEA via internet chat. You should contact spbea(AT)spbea.org.fj if you need support to use this program. It is hoped that in 2010 many more schools will use MSN to reduce the distance between the schools and SPBEA.
   
   d. Adobe Reader 6.0 - this will allow you to read many of the files that are sent to you in pdf format.
   
   e. Firefox Mozilla 3.0.6 - The Firefox Web Browser is the faster, more secure, and fully customizable way to surf the web.
   

Please study these documents carefully as they contain valuable information that explains procedure that will be used in 2010 We trust that you will find this information useful and we encourage you all to use them.
